In Matthew 16:15 Jesus asked the disciples, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

   Jesus responded to Peter saying, "Blessed are you Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven." It was upon this rock--the revelation of Jesus Christ--that Jesus said, "I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it."
